How to use this template

  1. Download the PDF — click the button above. The file is generated locally in your browser and never uploaded anywhere.
  2. Complete the header block — assign a unique WI number, enter the title, applicable part/drawing numbers, and get sign-offs from Engineering and Quality before release.
  3. Customize the safety section — add any process-specific PPE, chemical hazards, or ESD requirements for your operation.
  4. Fill in the work steps table — write each step as an imperative instruction. The right column is for acceptance criteria or the record reference — never leave it blank for safety-critical steps.
  5. Mark Special Characteristics — use the CC/SC notation in the work steps for any customer-designated critical or significant characteristics so operators know to apply enhanced controls.
  6. Control and release via document control — issue the completed WI through your DMS, link it to the relevant PFMEA and Control Plan, and keep revision history current.

AS9100 Note: Work instructions must be available at the point of use (Clause 7.5.3). Ensure operators can access the current approved version — not a photocopy of a previous revision — before beginning work.
