A final inspection checklist is the last check before product is released to a customer: every planned operation is complete, the product meets its requirements, and it is labeled, packed and documented correctly. This spreadsheet records each check, calculates pass or fail per line, and shows whether the lot can be released.
Header
Product / revision, Customer order, Lot / serial range, Qty, Control plan reference, Inspector, Date
Checks
12 pre-filled checks with requirement and method, plus blank rows
Results
Qty checked, qty failed and allowed failures, with Pass / Fail calculated per check
Decision
Checks completed, failed and outstanding, and RELEASE / HOLD
Example Example Manufacturing Co., a fictional manufacturer, completes 40 electrical enclosure assemblies for one order. The plan calls for 100% functional test and a dimensional sample of 8 (Example values). All figures are illustrative.
| Assembly / revision | ENC-200 rev C |
|---|---|
| Order / lot | SO 5512 / lot 23-201 |
| Qty | 40 |
| Check | Qty checked | Qty failed | Allowed | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Traveler complete, all operations signed | 1 | 0 | 0 | Pass |
| Visual workmanship | 40 | 0 | 0 | Pass |
| Dimensions per control plan | 8 | 0 | 0 | Pass |
| Functional test | 40 | 1 | 0 | Fail |
| Labels and serial numbers | 40 | 0 | 0 | Pass |
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Product, revision, order, lot | Identifiers for what is being released. Match the revision on the traveler to the customer order. |
| Qty | Quantity presented for final inspection. Reconcile with the traveler count. |
| Check | What is verified at final. Derive from the control plan and customer requirements. |
| Requirement | Specification, drawing note or customer requirement. Reference the source document and revision. |
| Method / gauge | How it is checked and gauge or test station ID. Record IDs so the result can be traced to a calibrated device. |
| Qty checked | Units checked for that line. Use 1 for document checks such as traveler review. |
| Qty failed | Units that failed. Enter 0 when all pass. |
| Allowed failures | Maximum failures that still allow release. Usually 0 at final; any other value must come from an approved plan. |
| Result | Calculated — Pass or Fail. Formula: failed ≤ allowed. |
| Release decision | Calculated — release, or hold. A hold needs an NCR and a documented disposition. |
| Released by and date | Who authorized release and when. Required evidence of who released the product. |
Final inspection is the checking activity. Acceptance or release is the decision, based on those results, that the product can ship.
It depends on your control plan, risk and customer requirements. Functional and safety checks are often 100%; some dimensions may be sampled under an approved plan.
Someone with the competence and authority defined by your quality system, and ideally not the person who made the part when independence is required.
Each line compares failed units with the allowed number. If any line fails, the release decision changes to hold.
The completed checklist, measured data where required, gauge IDs, the person who released the product and any NCRs raised.
