One row per shift or day. Enter planned time, downtime, ideal cycle time and counts, and the sheet calculates availability, performance, quality and OEE for each row and for the whole period, weighted correctly.
New templates, charts and calculators for quality and manufacturing engineers, when they ship.
Production supervisors, manufacturing engineers and maintenance leads who track one machine, cell or line and want OEE they can trust before buying a monitoring system.
Tip: The period figures at the bottom are recalculated from the totals. Never average the shift OEE percentages; short shifts would count as much as long ones.

Example One week for CNC cell 2 at Example Precision Co., a fictional machine shop. Day shift, 450 planned minutes per shift, ideal cycle time 30 s per part, OEE target 80%. Every figure is invented for illustration.

| Field | What to enter | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Planned production time (min) | Shift time minus planned stops (breaks, meetings, no orders). It is the base for availability. | 450 |
| Downtime (min) | Unplanned stops and changeovers while production was planned. Keep a reason for the biggest one. | 38 |
| Ideal cycle time (s/part) | The fastest repeatable time per part on this machine. For multi-part cycles, divide the cycle by parts per cycle. | 30 |
| Total count | Every part made, good or bad, including first-off parts. | 780 |
| Reject count | Scrap plus parts sent to rework. Only right-first-time parts are good. | 12 |
| Availability / Performance / Quality (calculated) | Run ÷ planned; ideal time for the parts made ÷ run time; good ÷ total. | 91.6% / 94.7% / 98.5% |
| OEE (calculated) | The product of the three factors, calculated from unrounded values. | 85.3% |
| Top downtime reason | One phrase for the largest stop. It turns the log into a Pareto of losses. | Bar feeder jam |
OEE = availability × performance × quality. Availability is run time ÷ planned production time, performance is ideal cycle time × total count ÷ run time, and quality is good count ÷ total count.
There is no single right number. 85% is often quoted as a benchmark for discrete manufacturing, but the useful comparison is your own machine over time. Set a target with operations and track the trend.
The ideal cycle time is too long, or the total count includes parts from another shift. Correct the ideal time to the fastest repeatable time.
If no production was planned during it, leave it out of planned production time. If it happened when production was scheduled, record it as downtime. Be consistent.
Yes, use the machine column. For a per-machine period OEE, filter or copy the sheet per machine, because the summary covers every row.
